Holy Ground

This started out being written from a deep pit of despair. I wrote the first line and sang it over and over again, calling out for Grace — and then I realized that Grace is always here, a mysterious yet tangible force that is present everywhere, flowing through each breath, supporting me from head to toe, both uplifting and grounding me. It is impossible to be truly apart from Grace, though it sure can seem like it when I don’t (and won’t!) let it flow through my life.

When I wrote the other lines and kept singing them over and over, I felt myselfslowly being pulled up and out of the dark abyss, gradually feeling that my breath and body were connected completely to a constant flow of Grace-full support. Whenever I chant this, it doesn’t take long for my heart to fully open.

Holy Ground

(For remembering that Grace is always already here)

Even in my darkest place
May your Grace come my way
Even in my darkest place
May your Grace come my way
May I remember You’re in the air I breathe
May I remember You’re in the air I breathe
Wherever I am, I stand on holy ground
Wherever I am, I stand on holy ground
